Cascadle questions

If something here does not answer your question, the full rules are on the how to play page.

Playing

Is Cascadle free?

Yes — no account, no download, no ads.

How many guesses do I get?

Unlimited. There is no way to lose a cascade, only to spend more tiles than you would like.

Why is my score in "tiles" instead of guesses?

Because the levels are different lengths. A wrong seven-letter guess costs seven tiles and a wrong three-letter guess costs three, which keeps the levels fair against each other. A perfect run is 25 tiles.

What is a perfect cascade?

Solving all five levels on the first guess: 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 25 tiles.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. The board and keyboard are built for a phone screen first.

The daily puzzle

When does the next cascade appear?

At 00:00 UTC. Everyone in the world gets the same chain on the same day, which is why the countdown on the board is not tied to your local midnight.

Does everyone get the same puzzle?

Yes. That is the point — the score you share is comparable with everybody else's that day.

Do answers ever repeat?

A whole chain never repeats. Individual words can come back eventually, but the schedule keeps at least several months between reappearances.

What happens to my streak if I miss a day?

It resets to zero. The streak counts consecutive days on which you finished the daily cascade.

Words

Which words can I guess?

Anything in our dictionary of roughly 52,000 English words between three and seven letters, using US spelling. It is deliberately generous: being told a real word "is not a word" is the most annoying thing a word game can do.

Which words can be answers?

A much smaller pool of everyday words. Answers are filtered by how common the word actually is, so you should never have to guess something you have not heard of.

I guessed a real word and it was rejected.

Sorry — the dictionary is large but not infinite, and it is US spelling only. Tell us and we will look at adding it.
